What Is Rebels Remembered Day?

Known as much for its distinctive style as for creating some of the most beloved characters in Star Wars, Rebels ran for four seasons on Disney XD. The series centers around the Ghost crew and includes several Original Trilogy themes and tie-ins. Many fans consider the entire series some of the best stories in Star Wars. So it only makes sense that fans still celebrate the series today. From its origins as a fan celebration on social media to the Star Wars Celebration Chicago panel, here is everything you need to know about Rebels Remembered Day.

What Is Rebels Remembered Day?

The unofficial celebration of the Star Wars: Rebels animated series, Rebels Remembered Day is celebrated every year on March 5th. The day marks the anniversary of the Rebels final episode, “Family Reunion – and Farewell.”

Set between the events of the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy, Rebels follows a small rebel cell in their fight against the Galactic Empire. Rebels explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and the struggle between good and evil. It also incorporates elements of the Star Wars mythology and expands on the lore of the franchise.

The show has been praised for its engaging characters, compelling storytelling, and distinctive animation style. Despite its popularity, Dave Filoni chose to end the series in the fourth season. This allowed him to conclude the story on his terms, unlike the unexpected cancellation of The Clone Wars.

Star Wars blogger Johnamarie Macias organized the first Rebels Remembered Day event in 2019. Johnamarie announced the #RebelsRemembered event on February 6, 2019. She called on fans to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the series finale by sharing their favorite memories, fan creations, and theories about the show.

Since then, fans have continued to celebrate Rebels Remembered Day every year on March 5th.

What Is the Rebels Remembered Panel?

The Star Wars Rebels Remembered panel was an official celebration during Star Wars Celebration Chicago. Taking place on April 13, 2019, the panelists included executive producer Dave Filoni, co-executive producer Athena Portillo, and actors Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla), Taylor Gray (Ezra Bridger), and Tiya Sircar (Sabine Wren).

They discussed their experiences working on the show, shared behind-the-scenes stories and insights, and reflected on the legacy of Rebels in the broader context of the Star Wars franchise. They also screened clips from the show and answered questions from the audience.

The Rebels Remembered panel was announced during The Star Wars Show on March 6, 2019, the day after the first anniversary of the show’s conclusion. It is unclear whether the Rebels Remembered fan celebration influenced the creation of the panel.
