Are you wondering what day of the week Star Wars episodes drop on Disney+? Episodes of the new Maul – Shadow Lord series are coming out on Mondays. However, the Star Wars release schedule has changed several times since Disney+ launched in 2019. The Mandalorian debuted in 2019 with a Friday release. It then shifted to Wednesdays with The Book of Boba Fett and, later, Tuesdays with Ahsoka. We’ve put together a complete breakdown of every Star Wars Disney+ series, including the release day for each season, when premiere episodes broke the pattern, and which shows dropped multiple episodes at once. Let’s look at what day every Star Wars show has come out on Disney+.
Star Wars Disney+ Shows Have Used Four Different Weekly Release Days
Both fans and critics have noted that a Monday release day for Maul – Shadow Lord is a shift from the normal Star Wars schedule on Disney+. But the truth is, there’s no single “normal” day. Star Wars series on Disney+ have aired new episodes on Fridays, Wednesdays, Tuesdays, and now Mondays.
Here’s how the Star Wars release day on Disney+ has changed over the years.
- Fridays (2019 to 2021): The Mandalorian Seasons One and Two, The Clone Wars Season Seven, and The Bad Batch Season One
- Wednesdays (2021 to 2023): The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor Season One, The Mandalorian Season Three, and The Bad Batch Seasons Two and Three
- Tuesdays (2023 to 2025): Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, and Andor Season Two
- Mondays (2026): Maul – Shadow Lord
The release time has also changed. Early shows dropped at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern. Starting with Ahsoka in August 2023, live-action Star Wars series moved to a primetime slot at 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern on the evening of the release day.
Why Did Disney+ Change Star Wars Release Days?
Disney+ changed the Star Wars release days as part of a platform-wide shift that affected Marvel, Pixar, and other original programming at the same time.
When Disney+ launched in November 2019, all original series dropped on Fridays. That changed in June 2021 when Marvel’s Loki moved its premiere from Friday, June 11, to Wednesday, June 9.
The show became the most-watched series premiere in Disney+ history at the time, and Disney made the Wednesday switch permanent for all original series starting July 1, 2021.
At least part of the reason for the change was competition with other streaming services. Fridays were getting crowded with Netflix, Hulu, and Apple TV+ all fighting for attention on the same day.
Shifting to Wednesdays meant Disney+ wasn’t competing directly with Netflix and other streamers. It also helped avoid conflicts with Disney’s own theatrical releases, since new movies typically open on Fridays.
For Star Wars, this meant The Bad Batch Season One kept its Friday slot (it was already airing), but every new Star Wars series from The Book of Boba Fett onward moved to Wednesdays.
The next shift came in August 2023, when Disney+ started moving live-action shows to Tuesdays with a primetime evening slot. Ahsoka led the way, and every live-action Star Wars series since then has followed that pattern.
This second shift could be to ensure Disney+ programming didn’t overlap with Disney’s theatrical content. Many blockbusters, including Disney’s own Marvel and Star Wars films, come out on Wednesday or Thursday instead of Friday.
Now Maul – Shadow Lord is shifting the release date to Mondays. However, it is unclear whether this is a one-time decision or another shift for Disney+.
With a Monday release schedule, the Shadow Lord finale ends on Monday, May 4, 2026. Disney and Lucasfilm have a history of using May the Fourth for season premieres and finales.
But it could also signal a shift for future Disney+ programming. The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season Two is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2026. There are no release dates for the rest of the season yet.
We will update our predictions once we know more.
The Mandalorian
The Mandalorian was the first live-action Star Wars series and its release schedule became the template for future Disney+ shows.
Season One (November 12 to December 27, 2019)
Season One released weekly on Fridays, with two exceptions.
First, the premiere episode dropped on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, same day as Disney+ launched. The unusual Tuesday start was tied to the platform’s debut rather than the show’s regular schedule. Episode 2 followed three days later on Friday, November 15.
The other exception was Episode 7, which moved to Wednesday, December 18. Lucasfilm shifted that episode earlier in the week to avoid competing with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which opened in theaters on December 20. The season finale returned to Friday, December 27.
Season One had eight episodes, and each one dropped at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern.
Season Two (October 30 to December 18, 2020)
Season Two was the most straightforward release schedule of all Star Wars shows on Disney+. All eight episodes dropped weekly on Fridays with no exceptions. The premiere aired on October 30, 2020, and the finale landed on December 18, 2020.
Episodes appear on Disney+ at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern, the same as Season One.
Season Three (March 1 to April 19, 2023)
Season Three moved to Wednesdays. This was the first Mandalorian season to use a Wednesday release day, following a broader Disney+ shift that began with Marvel’s Loki in mid-2021.
All eight episodes came out weekly on Wednesdays at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern. The premiere aired on March 1, 2023, and the finale dropped on April 19.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season Seven (February 21 to May 4, 2020)
The revival season of The Clone Wars was the second Star Wars series on Disney+. It ran for 12 episodes, released weekly on Fridays at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern.
The premiere dropped on Friday, February 21, 2020. The rest of the season followed suit with the exception of the final episode, “Victory and Death.” The series finale was moved to Monday, May 4, 2020, so it would land on Star Wars Day.
The Bad Batch
The Bad Batch started on Fridays before switching to Wednesdays for the second two seasons.
Season One (May 4 to August 13, 2021)
Season One premiered on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, Star Wars Day. The premiere was an extended 74-minute episode.
After that, the show moved to Fridays. Episodes 2 through 16 all released on Fridays at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern. The season had 16 episodes total, ending with a two-part finale on August 6 and August 13.
Season Two (January 4 to March 29, 2023)
Season Two switched to Wednesdays, matching the platform-wide shift. It premiered on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, with two episodes dropping on the same day.
The season had 16 episodes. Most weeks featured a single episode, but there were multi-episode drops at the midseason point and the finale. The two-part finale, “The Summit” and “Plan 99,” released together on Wednesday, March 29.
Episodes dropped at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern.
Season Three (February 21 to May 1, 2024)
Season Three premiered on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, with a three-episode drop on the same day.
The season had 15 episodes. After the triple-episode premiere, most weeks featured a single episode on Wednesdays. But there were two more instances of double-episode drops during the season: Episodes 6 and 7 and Episodes 10 and 11 were released together.
The finale aired on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Episodes dropped at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern.
The Book of Boba Fett (December 29, 2021, to February 9, 2022)
The Book of Boba Fett was one of the first Star Wars shows to adopt the Wednesday release day. All seven episodes dropped weekly on Wednesdays, with no multi-episode drops.
The series debuted on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, and wrapped on February 9, 2022. Episodes arrived on Disney+ at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (May 27 to June 22, 2022)
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a six-episode limited series. The first two episodes dropped together on Friday, May 27, 2022.
The debut was originally planned for Wednesday, May 25, which would’ve marked the 45th anniversary of the original Star Wars film. Lucasfilm pushed it back two days to Friday and added the second episode to the premiere.
The remaining four episodes followed the Disney+ Wednesday release schedule. New episodes dropped weekly on June 1, 8, 15, and 22.
The two premiere episodes actually arrived a few hours earlier than the usual midnight Pacific slot. They went live around 9:00 PM Pacific on May 26. The remaining episodes returned to the standard midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern release time.
Andor
Andor used a different release strategy for each season.
Season One (September 21 to November 23, 2022)
Season One premiered on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, with three episodes dropping on the same day. After that, the remaining nine episodes were released weekly on Wednesdays.
The season had 12 episodes total, and they dropped at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern.
Season Two (April 22 to May 13, 2025)
Season Two took a completely different approach. It released 12 episodes in batches of three per week over four consecutive Tuesdays: April 22, April 29, May 6, and May 13.
Each three-episode batch covered one year of the story timeline, with the full season spanning four years leading into the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Creator Tony Gilroy designed the season around these three-episode arcs to keep the narrative tight.
Season Two also used the primetime release window, appearing on Disney+ at 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern. That meant UK and European fans didn’t get the episodes until early Wednesday morning due to time zone differences.
Ahsoka Season One (August 22 to October 3, 2023)
Ahsoka was the first Star Wars series to debut on a Tuesday, moving to a primetime release slot.
The show was originally slated for a Wednesday, August 23, 2023, release, but Disney moved the premiere up one day to Tuesday, August 22. It debuted with a two-episode premiere. All six remaining episodes were also released on Tuesdays.
The new release time of 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern was a shift from the midnight drops that previous Star Wars shows used, setting a new standard for Disney+.
Ahsoka had eight episodes total.
The Acolyte (June 4 to July 16, 2024)
The Acolyte followed the Tuesday primetime model that Ahsoka established. It premiered on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, with two episodes dropping together.
The remaining six episodes came out weekly on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern. The season had eight episodes total and wrapped on July 16.
Skeleton Crew (December 2, 2024, to January 14, 2025)
Skeleton Crew mostly followed a Tuesday schedule, although its premiere was on a Monday.
The two-episode premiere dropped on Monday, December 2, 2024. Disney had originally announced a December 3 debut (a Tuesday) but moved it up one day at the last minute, similar to what happened with Ahsoka.
After the Monday premiere, the remaining six episodes came out weekly on Tuesdays through January 14, 2025. The show had eight episodes total, and all episodes released at 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord (Premieres April 6, 2026)
Maul – Shadow Lord will be the first Star Wars series with a regular Monday release schedule. It’s also the first to air two new episodes per week for the entire season.
The animated series follows Darth Maul as he rebuilds his criminal empire while hiding from the Empire, set between The Clone Wars and Rebels. Sam Witwer returns to voice the character.
Here’s the full release schedule:
- Monday, April 6, 2026: Two-episode premiere
- Monday, April 13, 2026: Two episodes
- Monday, April 20, 2026: Two episodes
- Monday, April 27, 2026: Two episodes
- Monday, May 4, 2026: Two-episode finale
The series will wrap up in five weeks with 10 episodes total. That May 4 finale date means Maul – Shadow Lord will end on Star Wars Day, a popular day for Star Wars releases on Disney+.
It is unclear at this time whether Shadow Lord will come out at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern or 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern.
Animated Anthology and Binge-Release Shows
Several Star Wars animated series on Disney+ don’t follow a weekly release pattern, dropping all episodes at once instead.
Star Wars: Visions
Visions is an animated anthology series with episodes created by different animation studios around the world. Every volume has dropped all of its episodes on the same day.
- Volume 1 (nine episodes): Wednesday, September 22, 2021
- Volume 2 (nine episodes): Thursday, May 4, 2023
- Volume 3 (nine episodes): Wednesday, October 29, 2025
Tales of the Jedi (October 26, 2022)
Tales of the Jedi is an animated anthology of six short episodes dropped all at once on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Three episodes followed Ahsoka Tano and three focused on Count Dooku.
Tales of the Empire (May 4, 2024)
The second Tales installment, Tales of the Empire dropped all six episodes on Saturday, May 4, 2024, for Star Wars Day. It followed Morgan Elsbeth and Barriss Offee.
Tales of the Underworld (May 4, 2025)
Tales of the Underworld, the third Tales installment, dropped all of its episodes on Sunday, May 4, 2025, again timed for Star Wars Day. It followed Cad Bane and Asajj Ventress.
The Tales series has a tradition of releasing on May 4 regardless of what day of the week it falls on.
Young Jedi Adventures
Young Jedi Adventures is a children’s animated series that aired on both Disney+ and Disney Junior. It didn’t follow a weekly episode model. Instead, episodes were released in batches.
- Season 1 (25 episodes): Released in four batches on May 4, 2023, August 2, 2023, November 8, 2023, and February 14, 2024.
- Season 2 (23 episodes): Also released in batches throughout 2024.
- Season 3 (seven episodes): All episodes dropped at once on Monday, December 8, 2025. This was the final season.
LEGO Star Wars and Other Specials on Disney+
Beyond the episodic series covered above, Disney+ is home to several standalone LEGO Star Wars specials and short-form animated projects. These series and specials don’t follow consistent weekly release schedules.
LEGO Star Wars Specials
Lucasfilm and the LEGO Group have produced a series of animated, standalone specials on Disney+, each tied to a seasonal theme.
- LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special: Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
- LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales: Friday, October 1, 2021.
- LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation: Friday, August 5, 2022.
In addition to the seasonal specials, Lucasfilm and the LEGO Group produced LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, a four-episode animated miniseries that dropped all episodes at once on Friday, September 13, 2024. A sequel series, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past, followed on Friday, September 19, 2025, also as a full binge release.
None of the LEGO specials or series follow a weekly release pattern. They’re all one-and-done drops, similar to the Tales and Visions anthologies.
Animated Micro-Series and Shorts
Disney+ also hosts several animated micro-series that originally debuted on YouTube or Disney Channel before landing on the streaming platform. These include Star Wars: Forces of Destiny (2017 to 2018), a collection of two- to three-minute shorts focused on characters like Rey, Ahsoka, and Sabine, and Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures (2018 to 2020), which retells iconic saga moments in a stylized animation format.
Other short-form content on Disney+ includes Zen: Grogu and Dust Bunnies (a hand-drawn animated short by Studio Ghibli released November 12, 2022), Star Wars Biomes, Star Wars Galaxy of Sounds, and Star Wars Vehicle Flythroughs. These shows also featured binge-watch releases, often coinciding with Star Wars or Disney+ anniversaries.
Release Time Changes Over the Years
When Disney+ first launched, all Star Wars shows dropped at midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern. The Mandalorian Seasons One and Two, The Clone Wars Season Seven, all three seasons of The Bad Batch, The Book of Boba Fett, most episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor Season One all used that midnight time slot.
Ahsoka changed things in August 2023 by introducing a primetime release at 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern. Every live-action Star Wars series since then has used this time slot, including The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, and Andor Season Two.
The animated shows continued to use the midnight release window.
Release Times for International Audiences
For fans outside North America, the release time matters even more.
During the midnight Pacific era, new Star Wars episodes went live at 8:00 AM in the UK, 9:00 AM in Central Europe, and 5:00 PM in Japan. That was actually a pretty convenient window for international viewers since most people could watch during the day or right after work.
When live-action shows moved to 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern, that translated to 2:00 AM in the UK, 3:00 AM in Central Europe, and 11:00 AM the next day in Japan.
For Andor Season Two, which was released on Tuesdays, UK and European fans didn’t see new episodes until early Wednesday morning.
